Theatre

"To break through language in order to touch life is to create or re-create the theatre."

—Antonin Artaud

As revealed in the earliest recorded history, theatre reflects the time and place of its origins. The creations of theatre artists come from perceptions of nature, from relationships and interactions with others, and from the artists’ inner selves. Through storytelling and other oral traditions, cultures define themselves and educate their members down through the ages. In contemporary and historical commemorations, celebrations, and dramatizations, theatre gives voice to culture. It continues to serve many social functions, providing a powerful multisensory mirror reflecting social issues, challenges, and accomplishments.

Elementary School Theatre

There is no district coordinated elementary drama program; however, various elementary schools put on their own dramatic productions.  Many of these are offered through a peer coaching arrangement set-up through the local high school.

Middle School Theatre

The majority of Middle Schools offer classes in drama and musical theatre. In musical theatre, students participate in acting, singing, and dancing, as well as costuming and prop building. The drama classes explore theatre arts, including improvisation, mime, stage presence, vocal projection, costume design, script writing and performance. Middle School drama and musical theatre productions are of the highest quality and have been recognized by the Orange County Department of Education with the "Superintendent's Award" on several occasions.
