Dear Springbrook Families,

Many of you have been asking about the “Vote for E” signs posted around the streets of Irvine.  What is it and how does it affect Springbrook?  Measure E has been placed on the June ballot to improve older schools so they meet the same safety and academic standards as new schools.  Only voters in the neighborhoods served by the oldest schools will vote on this measure. Property owners in the newest areas paying Community Facility District (CFD) fees, toward school facility construction, will not be impacted by this measure. Most of the high schools and middle schools serving graduates of Irvine’s newest elementary schools will receive significant improvements as a result of this measure.

What Does that Mean for Springbrook School?
Springbrook has been open for 27 years, and is due for a complete modernization of our facilities.  Springbrook is at the top of the list to receive new music classrooms, new equipment, HVAC, furniture, flexible collaborative spaces, and more if this bond passes (see full Springbrook list:  If your child is graduating and moving on to South Lake and Woodbridge, you may be interested in seeing what is in store for other IUSD schools if this measure passes:

IUSD Schools are Among the Best in the State and the Country
IUSD serves more than 32,000 students and Irvine’s local schools consistently rank among the best in California and the nation. Irvine’s world-class schools protect the value of local homes and the quality of life in the community.

Protecting Funding for Teaching and Instruction at All Schools
IUSD receives the lowest level of per student funding in Orange County. Measure E will create a dedicated funding source for facility improvements at older schools. This measure will protect districtwide program and operational funding from potentially expensive costs so that the facility needs at aging schools do not take funds away from teaching and instructional programs districtwide.
Specifically, funds from this measure would be used to upgrade Irvine’s oldest schools by:

  • Providing the facilities and equipment needed for career and technology classes so students are prepared for college and good paying jobs in fields like science, engineering, technology and skilled trades
  • Providing classrooms, science labs and school facilities that meet current safety, technology and academic standards
  • Ensuring that all schools have the classrooms and instructional spaces needed for Irvine's world-class art and music programs
  • Improving traffic and safety in and around schools
  • Updating instructional technology in the classroom for improved student learning in core subjects like reading and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) 
  • Replacing aging roofs, plumbing, electrical systems, and heating and cooling systems
  • Ensuring classrooms, labs and other facilities are accessible for students with disabilities

Strong Fiscal Accountability
All funds raised by the measure would go directly to fund school improvements. By law, funds could not be taken away by the state or redirected for other purposes, and no money will be used for administrators’ salaries. A Citizens’ Oversight Committee and annual independent audits would ensure that money is spent properly.

Essential Upgrades for Equal Educational Standards
Many of Irvine’s 35 schools were built more than 30 years ago and are long overdue for basic repairs and upgrades. While some of our newest schools have modern classrooms, science labs and instructional technology, others don’t. IUSD is now working on a plan to provide all students with the classrooms, science labs and school facilities for equal access to 21st-century instructional technology and learning tools.

Dear Springbrook Families,

On behalf of Springbrook, welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We hope that you are all looking forward to returning to school after a summer break that has been restful and full of fun with your family and friends. We have been working hard as a staff to prepare for the arrival of our students and families on Wednesday, August 26th.

Every year parents must complete an online Re-registration process to update your student information from August 17th to August 26th, as well as view our school policies and procedures in one convenient location on our Parent Portal:

Our front office staff is available starting August 20th to assist you in this re-registration process, please feel free to call at 949-936-6050 for assistance. Please periodically check the Springbrook website for information including the daily schedule and the hours for minimum days. You may find the suggested supply lists and calendar on the Springbrook webpages: Calendar and Supply Lists.

I know that our families and students have been awaiting their classroom assignments and class schedules. Each student’s teacher assignment and class schedule will be available on our Parent Portal ( beginning at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 25th. Due to security and privacy concerns, our school sites are no longer able to release class lists for public viewing. Please visit your Parent Portal account to view your child’s teachers for the upcoming school year.

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  I am honored to be the new principal at Springbrook Elementary.  I have enjoyed meeting many staff and parents already, and look forward to meeting more of the Springbrook community as we start the school year. 

I knew early on that I wanted to be a teacher, so I pursued my B.A. in English and M.Ed. in Education from UCLA, as well as an Administrative Services degree from UCI.  My background as an educator began over twenty years ago as a high school English and Humanities teacher at Beverly Hills High School.  I also worked in education and information technology at the Getty Museum in Brentwood, bridging my love for education, the arts, and technology.  I later returned to public education, teaching sixth grade reading and writing at Pioneer Middle School, where I also served as a high-risk counselor and administrative intern.  Most recently I was the assistant principal at Vista Verde K-8 School in Irvine Unified, working closely with teachers, students and the parent community in making the highest quality education accessible to every student. 

My husband of eighteen years and I live in Irvine with our three children.  Our 10th grade daughter, 7th grade son, and 4th grade son keep us busy with their local sports and arts activities.  Many of you will find me cheering at a baseball or basketball game on any given weekend.  I cherish the fact that I live and work in Irvine, and am excited to become part of the Springbrook community!

The role of principal is multi-faceted – I see my role as one of leadership, facilitation, and service.  What I find most enjoyable about this work is that it involves daily interactions with teachers, students, and parents – all for the shared goal of creating a caring, learning-rich environment for all children so every child is prepared to meet the demands of the 21st century.  Your continued involvement, as well as the assistance of our community, is crucial to achieve these goals for every Springbrook student. 

We invite all members of our community to participate in our school program.  We welcome our parents (and grandparents) on campus, whether it is working with the parent leadership groups, volunteering in classrooms, or special events.  Your efforts make a difference every day for so many of our students.  Together we will sustain our excellent educational program and continue to build a strong community partnership.
