6th Grade Outdoor Education, 2018!

Monday, 3/5/2018: Following a smooth bus ride up to camp, we were greeted with beautiful weather and a little snow on the ground.  After meeting the trail leaders, the kids had a yummy hot lunch of mac and cheese or vegetarian chili.  They then went on their first hike.  After dinner, the kids will do an astronomy lesson or nocturnal nation.

Tuesday, 3/6/2018: Hello from another beautiful day in the mountains!  We started the day with a yummy breakfast of eggs, tater tots, cereal, and fresh fruit.  Today, half the kids went hiking out in trails all day and the other half did the Adventure Course, which included archery, team building, and rock climbing.  One group was very excited to witness Mrs. Heller shoot four bullseyes in a row!  Tonight's dinner is spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, and dessert.  Everyone is getting excited for our Snakes class tonight and to look at the bright stars in the clear night sky.

Wednesday, 3/7/2018:After meeting the camp's snakes, the students knew so much about how they live and are adapted to their environments.  This morning was a delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausage, oatmeal, fruit, and cereal.  Half the kiddos stayed and did the adventure day, while the other half went hiking.  The students all got an opportunity to try to make fire with sticks and rocks and learn how difficult it really is!  Tonight will be a fun and exciting time of line dancing and practicing for their skits for tomorrow evening.  There are many smiles and laughter can be heard throughout the forest.

Thursday, 3/8/2018:Our day started with a nutritious breakfast and plenty of sunshine.  All students were out of camp hiking today and enjoying the last day of camp.  While using the outdoors as the classroom, there were lessons on insects, trees, and birds.  Students and teachers hiked to Frog Creek, Jenks Lake, and Horse Meadows, all of which are beautiful places this time of year.  For our final night, we will enjoy pizza for dinner and skits during the campfire.  Tomorrow, we should pull into school around 12:30 or 1:00.  Please look here for updates.  This week has been a fabulous and enjoyable time and all the instructors have been so impressed with our students!
